What we learned this week

  • Why conspiracy theories are on the rise, and why it matters.
  • Have US carbon emissions turned a corner? There’s been an unexpected 7% fall in the last four years, and it’s not all down to the recession.
  • A few months ago I looked into biodegradeable trainers and found them hard to come by, so I was pleased to see that Puma have announced that they are to research this. It would make them the first mainstream shoe company to do so.
  • As a child I saw all kinds of odds and ends sent as aid to Africa, from container loads of McDonalds special sauce turning up in famine zones to the little Welsh church that sent a second-hand fire engine to a town in Madagascar, so I rather appreciated Foreign Policy’s recent slide show on misplaced aid.
